Proverbs 18 Wisdom

I was reading in Proverbs 18 a couple of days ago and verse 19 really stuck out to me. “A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle.” When we offend others with our words and actions they no longer care to listen to anything we have to say. We couldn’t possibly share our testimony with someone we have offended because they are no longer open to receive it. Lately all I have seen amongst Christians on facebook and even non believers as well are contentions. As it says in Proverbs 18:17 “The first one to plead his cause seems right, Until his neighbor comes and examines him.” We all think we are right and post what we believe, and then someone reads what we have posted and comes along examines our post and disputes it. Contentions are everywhere on facebook. Proverbs 18:6-7 “A fool’s lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for blows. A fool’s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.”

As Christians our testimony should be handled with care. Our words and actions can destroy our testimony. Our words are so incredibly important. With our tongue we can build up another or we can tear them down. Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Remember how important your words are when speaking and interacting with others, even online. You can and will destroy your witness and testimony. Let down your Pride and Be Humble. Proverbs 18:12 “Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty,
And before honor is humility.”

There is much wisdom to be found in Proverbs and we must remember to wise as serpents and gentle as doves. Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
